"My testimonial on Diabetes
Most people who I talk and deal with
every day, say I don’t look or speak my age, but I turned 72 this past
May.
But, back in 2000 I was diagnosed with Dictates II. In the
beginning the doctor felt my levels were not high enough to consider
Insulin, but started me on a number of medications for diabetes, high
blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and several other medications.
From that point,I questioned what was my future going to bring.
As
the years passed, my sugar levels were up and down from enjoying eating
great food and having a few mixed drinks once and while, never worrying
what could happen. Because of this attitude, my weight started to
increase. I was fifty pounds overweight by the end of 2008

overweight and out of control sugar levels I felt that I was starting to
deteriorate. My legs, I had trouble sleeping because of aching, and my
feet would go numb or go cold from lack of circulation. I could not walk
any distances because my feet would start to hurt. Many times I would
get light headed or week from lack of energy. I enjoyed staying home
more often.
In July of 2009, I had an appointment with my doctor
and he recommended starting me on insulin. I refused. I was not going to
be married to the needle I told him.
In his frustration he sent
me to a diabetic specialist. After running a number of tests and finding
my A1c (average body sugar levels) were 10.5. Four and half times
higher than it should be, I was in serious health dangers.
I was
against the needle and the continual use of insulin; he agreed to allow
me to go on a strict diet of a 100 carbohydrates a day for thirty days.
By end of this period h e would determine what my future would be.
At

As of today, my
sugar levels (daily) run between 90 to 135 and my last A1C was 6.8 my
diabetes has stabilized.
